Elliot Park is one of the oldest neighborhood communities in Minneapolis. It began in the 1850’s as one of the settlements that emerged around the Falls of St. Anthony on the Mississippi River. Its proximity to the industries that were built up around the Falls made it popular for Swedish immigrants who were drawn to this area. Sections of Elliot Park along 8th Street were platted for the building of houses, stores, and churches as early as 1856, only four years after the founding of Minneapolis.  Learn more about the Elliot Park Neighborhood

EPNI Awarded Headwaters Community Innovation Grant to Work on Food Access solutions for Elliot Park

Near the end of summer, a group of local renters convened to discus and prioritize neighborhood issues. They unanimously identified access to food as their top issue.  Over the following months, discussion ensued, and solutions were brainstormed.  We applied for the Community Innovation Grant from Headwaters Foundation for Justice – knowing that with increased resources, we could put some real work into finding a solution.  We are happy to announce that this month EPNI was awarded the grant!  Working with a group of dedicated volunteer residents, EPNI will support and guide this team of volunteers to spend the next 12 months researching food access barriers, researching a solution to food access issues, and proposing a final solution in December of 2019. Once this 12 month phase is over, then we can start the process of implementation!

We need the support of the community to get this done!  If you are interested in participating at any level, then please contact jordan@elliotpark.org.  We meet on the 1st Wednesday of each month @ 6:30PM @ 817 5th Ave S on the 4th floor.  Hope to see you there!
